On Saturday, April 27, 2024, from 1:00-4:00 PM, Computer Science Department will hold its inaugural showcase, featuring research posters by undergraduate and graduate students in the department, laboratory and building tours, and demonstrations. All members of the Virginia Tech community -- including students, faculty, staff, alumni and Ut Prosim visitors from across the university -- industry partners, K-12 students and teachers, and any interested stakeholders are invited to attend.

This event is intended to increase the visibility of and celebrate the work taking place across our department and in our many labs and centers that support both undergraduate and graduate student research on the Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg. The Department will also be taking this opportunity to showcase its new environs in Gilbert Place and the Data & Decision Sciences (D&DS) building.

The event itself will consist of guided walking tours that last approximately 90 minutes. Visitors will check in and begin with a tour of Torgersen Hall, where undergraduate student research posters will be displayed throughout the atrium. These posters will have previously been on display during the Virginia Tech Undergraduate Research in Computer Science (VTURCS) symposium.

Tour guides will lead each tour group from the displays in Torgersen Hall to the Gilbert Place building, where the groups will be given a tour of the third and fourth floors of the building and will have an opportunity to peruse the posters on display from the CS labs and graduate research projects taking place on that site.

From Gilbert Place, the tour guides will lead their groups through a tour of the Data & Decision Sciences (D&DS) building, featuring Computer Science laboratories, demonstrations, and graduate student research posters. D&DS will be the last stop on the guided tour.

At each building, CS Department students, faculty, and staff will be on hand to talk with visitors and discuss their research. Refreshment stations for tour participants will be provided in each building.
