Abstract



In his keynote speech for cs/root, Matt will share his experiences with two startups, with different characteristics, funding models, locations, etc.

Biography

Matthew Tolentino is the Founder and CEO of Namatad Inc, a company he started to commercialize a localization and situational awareness system he designed to improve the operational visibility of firefighters, law enforcement, and more recently warfighters working in GPS-denied environments. Dr. Tolentino is also a professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering department at the University of Washington (Tacoma), where he invented the core localization techniques at the heart of the Namatad Firefly Platform. Prior to Namatad, Dr. Tolentino spent 15 years at Intel in numerous technical roles leading the development of advanced features within Intel CPUs, chipsets, accelerators, and servers. Dr. Tolentino is a veteran of the US Navy where he worked in the Office of the Secretary of the Navy and the Navy Office of Organization, Management, and Infrastructure team within the Pentagon.  Dr. Tolentino holds a B.S. from the University of Maryland, an M.S. from the University of Washington, and a Ph.D. from Virginia Tech, all in Computer Science.
