Abstract

Systems play a foundational role for our digital existence. And enhancing the
synergy between software and hardware is key to harness the full potential of
data storage and computing capabilities. In this talk, I will reflect on my
research journey of shaping software/hardware interfaces for cost-effective and
performance-predictable storage and memory infrastructure in data centers.

Biography

Huaicheng Li claimed his role as Assistant Professor at VT CS in the Fall of
2022. A former postdoc in CMU's Parallel Data Lab, he earned his Ph.D. from the
University of Chicago. With a keen eye for the arcane arts of Operating Systems
and Storage Systems, he crafts high-performance and cost-effective storage and
memory infrastructure for data centers. Huaicheng's research has earned a Distinguished Paper
Award at ASPLOS 2023 and a Best Paper Award at SYSTOR 2022, along with two Best
Paper nominations at FAST (2017 and 2018). His work extends beyond academia,
impacting data centers, integrating code into Linux, and providing a widely-used
storage research platform.
