CS|Source Stakeholder Spotlight: CoStar Group
Q: Can you share some of the ways you are connected with Virginia Tech and the Department of Computer Science?
CoStar Group is passionate about connecting with the Department of Computer Science at Virginia Tech. We strive to build partnerships with SHPE, AWC, WIC, Cyber Club and VT Hacks. We also partner with professors and advisors to ensure CoStar Group is being a strong partner to the Virginia Tech computer science students.
Q: What excites you the most about working with Virginia Tech graduates? Which skillsets are you seeking to ensure you have the best commercial real estate data?
CoStar Group continuously looks forward to recruiting Virginia Tech graduates because not only are they some of the brightest students in the country, but they’re innovative and bring a unique perspective to our teams. A huge piece of CoStar Group is our data and software. As an intern, or full-time hire with CoStar, you will have an experience to work on our company’s software and complete meaningful projects. All of the software worked on during the internship goes “live,” making the platform even more user-friendly for our clients.
Q: Can you please provide examples of what kind of job roles and areas of specialty you are seeking in Virginia Tech graduates?
CoStar Group hires technology interns, SDET interns, and product and analytics Interns. We are also hiring associate software engineers for those graduating in May.
Q: Is there an internship program available to interested Virginia Tech students?
Yes! We have internship opportunities available to rising juniors and seniors majoring in computer science and computer engineering students.
Q: What should students know about CoStar? What is the best piece of advice for students who are interested in meeting with you at the Fall 2021 CS|Source career fair?
Even though CoStar Group has been around for 32 years, we work and operate like a start-up. Our office environment is fast paced, collaborative, and innovative. We use cutting edge, modern technologies and strive to hire students that are self-starters, driven, and entrepreneurial minded.
My best piece of advice to students going into career fair season would be to articulate your experience – as employers, we want to know what you’ve learned in school, what extracurriculars and clubs you’re involved in, and what personal projects you’re working on. When we know what you’re passionate about, that’ll help us find you your dream internship opportunity at CoStar.
Q: Can you share how you support a culture of inclusion and diversity?
At CoStar Group, we have various ERGs (Employee Resource Groups) dedicated to promoting inclusion and diversity within our workforce. These ERG members have various social and networking events so they can meet others inside of the organization with similar perspectives. During our internship, we encourage interns to work with our ERGs so they can feel a little more at home within our organization.
Q: For students that are interested in CoStar Group, what should they do next?
Let us know! We will be on campus multiple times throughout this fall and would love to schedule time to speak with you in person about our internship opportunities. Feel free to email Allison Webster for more details.
