A few notes regarding Career Fair prep:
- Profiles for the CS|Source member companies who will be participating in the 2024 Fall Career Fair are located HERE. Please research the companies you wish to visit during the fair. Visit employer websites and check for any recent news articles. One of the top complaints from recruiters is when students walk up and say, "What does your company do?"
- Update and upload your resume to Handshake and the CS Job Hub. Ask your CS advisor, make an appointment with an advisor in Career and Professional Development, or participate in the Mock Career Fair to review your resume. Remember to take your resume to each event you attend.
- Prepare your elevator pitch. Ask your CS advisor, make an appointment with an advisor in Career and Professional Development, or participate in the Mock Career Fair to test drive your elevator pitch.
- Ask questions. Take a prepared list. Not sure what to ask an employer? Make an appointment with an advisor in Career and Professional Development or ask your preferred AI.
- Expect to apply online. A recruiter at the career fair may ask you to apply online to be officially considered for an interview. That's standard procedure, but your in-person contact with them is still important.
- Professional attire is required. Please do not wear pajamas, tracksuits, or yoga pants. Iron your clothes and neatly present yourself. You are making a first impression -- make it count! If you don't have professional clothes, make an appointment to visit VT's Career Outfitters (free professional attire for VT undergraduate and graduate students) in the Smith Career Center: https://career.vt.edu/advising/CareerOutfitters.html
