Special note for prospective international students
The U.S. government has announced entry restrictions for some countries that may affect prospective students. Consult the Cranwell International Center at Virginia Tech for updates and information.
Application process
- Apply online via the Virginia Tech Graduate School application portal.
General requirements
- Graduate Record Examination (GRE): Not required for any degree programs.
- English Language Proficiency:
- TOEFL score of 90 (IBT)
- TOEFL scores of 20 or greater in listening, writing, speaking, and reading subsections
- IELTS score of 6.5
- TOEFL score of 90 (IBT)
- Letters of recommendation:
- M.S./Ph.D.: Three letters required.
- M.Eng: One letter required.

Accelerated 4+1 master’s degrees (Virginia Tech and partner universities only)
The accelerated program allows you to earn both your bachelor’s and master’s degrees within five years by “double-counting” some courses taken during your senior year.
When should you apply? One year before you finish your bachelor’s degree to allow two semesesters to complete graduate-level courses.
