2020 Fall Career Fair

2020 Fall Career Fair events, depending on membership level, will be held on Sunday-Friday, September 13-16, 18. To provide a healthy and secure environment, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, all career fair events will be held virtually. Information will be updated as plans are finalized.

CS|Source Company Registration
- Upon membership renewal or enrollment, a link will be provided for company RSVP.
- Membership payments are due on September 1 for the academic year or February 1 for the calendar year. A booth is not secure unless payment has been received.
- Space at the career fair and interview day is on a first-come, first-served basis.

CS|Source Company Profile
All event confirmations will be sent to the primary contact listed on the company profile page in the CS|Source portal at https://csrc.cs.vt.edu. Students use this information to prepare, so please update your company profile in the CS|Source portal (2) two weeks prior to the career fair.

CS|Source Career Fair Representative RSVP
The names and contact information for all company representatives attending CS|Source career fair events and activities are due (1-2) one-two weeks prior to the career fair. This information will ensure seamless communications with updates for those attending events.

Employers can view student resumes at Career & Professional Development’s system, Handshake, at: https://career.vt.edu/job-search/Handshake.html.

Booth Information (For in-person career fairs)
- Stakeholder members receive 2 booths (double). Partner and Associate members receive 1 single booth.
- The number of representatives allowed at each booth follows: Associates - 2; Partners - 4; Stakeholders - 6.
- Space at the career fair and interview day is on a first-come, first-served basis. 
- CS|Source staff reserves the right to move company booths to accommodate layout and space.

A standard single booth comes with the following complimentary items:
- Booth 8’x6’ (Premier double 16’x6’)
- Back drape 8’ high
- Side rails 3’ high
- Skirted table 2’x6’
- Two chairs
- 120v electrical plug-in
- Company identification sign

End of Day Reminders (For in-person career fairs)
Place items and return shipper on your booth table that you want Hollins Exposition Services to ship. Career fair doors and student check-in close at 6:00 pm. Employers will determine whether or not to continue talking with students who may still be in line after 6:00 pm.

Wireless Access (For in-person career fairs)
At VT campus, company representatives request wireless access to VT Wireless Network at:
https://guestmanager.cns.vt.edu/guest/create_account.php?_browser=1. Access should be renewed after 9 hours.

SUNDAY, September 13, 2020

Employer Information Sessions, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm (Stakeholder) (Optional)

Stakeholder members will have the opportunity to showcase their company to students in one-hour sessions. You decide the best communication to relay about your company. Employers are not required to host a session—this is optional. Sessions will begin promptly on the hour with one employer session per hour. Please plan accordingly for presentation and Q&A.

Grad Panel, 5:30-6:30 pm (Stakeholder/Partner)

The panel format consists of grad students asking a variety of career-related/job search questions, seeking advice and/or recommendations. A member of the Grad Council will be on hand to help moderate. You do not need to prepare a special presentation. The participating company representatives come from diverse functional areas within his/her individual company, including HR recruiters, engineers, etc. Only one company representative may attend each panel.

Company Career Fair Prep, 7:00 am - 8:00 pm (Stakeholder/Partner)

Employers and students will meet in small group chats for 10-15 minutes per group. 

 

MONDAY, September 14, 2020

Receive updates on the university, department and CS|Source. Your participation is appreciated.

CS|Source Career Fair, 10:30 am - 4:00 pm (Stakeholder, Partner, Associate)

The CS|Source career fair is for computer science students only. Students from other majors are not permitted to attend and will not be allowed entry.

CS Plus Career Fair, 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm (Stakeholder, Partner, Associate)  

The CS Plus career fair students include CMDA (Computational Modeling and Data Analytics) and CPE (Computer Engineering Program). CS students continue to participate during this time.

CS|Source staff reserves the right to move company booths to accommodate the two concurrent sessions. Students will be able to freely move from one to the other.

Alumni Roundup, 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm (Stakeholder, Partner, Associate)                

This social is for VT computer science alumni ONLY - this is NOT a student/alumni networking event. If you are a VT computer science alum, please attend to network with other VT computer science alum.

 

TUESDAY, September 15, 2020

Interview Day, 8:30 am - 4:30 pm (Stakeholder, Partner, Associate)

Each employer is responsible for organizing their own schedule and communicating to students. Employers determine which students to invite and the length and time for the interview.

If you reserve an interview space(s), but find you will not be holding any interviews, please email cs-source@cs.vt.edu as soon as possible.  

CS Course Panels, Various Dates (September 15, 16, 18), (Stakeholder, Partner)

The panel format consists of students asking a variety of career-related/job search questions, seeking advice and/or recommendations. The professor will be on hand to help moderate. The question topics are entirely driven by the students. You do not need to prepare a special presentation. The participating company representatives come from diverse functional areas within his/her individual company, including HR recruiters, engineers, etc. Selected panelists will be notified by email and provided instructions. Only one company representative may attend each panel.  

For in-person career fairs.

Hollins Exposition Services of Roanoke, Virginia, is contracted to partner with the CSRC to provide excellent shipping services for employers. Hollins will email an exhibitor packet to registered employers approximately one month in advance of the career fair.

Return equipment and unused items through Hollins after the career fair by placing a shipping label on those items. Hollins will pick them up at your booth site.

Please DO NOT ship career fair items using another vendor to computer science offices or to the event venue. If another shipper is contracted (UPS, FedEx, etc.), employers are responsible for these packages. Hollins Exposition Services and CSRC staff will not be responsible to accept or move equipment or packages.

Parking space is reserved at Upper Chicken Hill Lot where parking passes will be provided. Two-day passes will be issued for Monday and Tuesday. Place pass on your dash where they may be clearly viewed by parking officials. Shuttles will run throughout the day.

Cancellations
CS|Source career fairs are university-sanctioned events. If Virginia Tech is closed on the day of the CS|Source career fair, for any reason including weather, the CS|Source career fair will be rescheduled. Refunds will not be issued to CS|Source members who cannot or do not participate in the rescheduled CS|Source career fair.

Refund Policy
In the unlikely circumstance that an event is cancelled or postponed due to insufficient enrollments or unforeseen circumstances, the CS|Source will determine if a refund will be issued. The Department of Computer Science and CS|Source cannot be held responsible for any company-incurred expenses including cancellation or change charges assessed by airlines, hotels, travel agencies or other organizations.

- If the university is closed, the event will be rescheduled.
- If the CS|Source career fair is held, and the interview day is cancelled, no refunds will be issued.
- If the CS|Source career fair is rescheduled due to weather, no refunds will be issued to a company that cannot attend the rescheduled date.

No-Show Policy
If a company is unable to attend the CS|Source Career Fair, for whatever reason, no refunds will be issued. Please send an email to cs-source@cs.vt.edu if you cannot attend.
