Blocksburg 2022

Christian Hinder, Cohen and Associates
Christian Hinder will chat with James Harder about how accounting has been impacted by blockchain-based assets. The conversation will consider how individuals and corporations have been grappling with pricing and categorizing NFTs, crypto, DeFi and more. They will discuss the ways that internationalization, government regulation, new financial instruments, and new accounting practices emerge as blockchain and crypto mature.

Justin Daniels, Baker Donelson and Noah Chong, Harpie
Justin Daniels and Noah Chong will discuss the growing importance of blockchain security. In this session we will discuss how smart contracts interact with blockchains, security risks associated with digital wallets, how cybersecurity is challenged by the move to web3.0, and discuss several recent blockchain-based hacks.

Tom Farley, Incoming CEO, Bullish
We are excited to have the Incoming CEO of Bullish Tom Farley as our keynote speaker. Tom, who was recently the CEO of the NYSE, will discuss how traditional finance has begun to embrace crypto, learn about the exciting new things happening at Bullish, and discuss the future of blockchain and the metaverse.

Lee Schneider, General Council, Ava Labs
Blocksburg veteran (2019) Lee Schneider joins us for a discussion about CBDCs and the ways that digital money and assets challenge the status quo.

Student blockchain-based groups from different universities will come together to share some of their active projects and how they are elevating blockchain-related activities at their institution. Hosted by the Blockchain at Virginia Tech student group.
The Virginia Tech Department of Computer Science would like to invite you to Blocksburg 2022. The Blocksburg conference serves as a catalyst for diverse-minded thinkers, leaders, technologists, and inventors to think about the current and future potential for blockchain. This spring, the conference will happen on April 14, 2022 and will be held completely virtual
In the fall of 2019, the first Blocksburg Summit brought together thought leaders from around the world to the Virginia Tech campus to engage in conversations at the intersection of technology, research, regulation, policy, and economics in commercial enterprises, government, and education. Now in its third iteration, Blocksburg 2022: The Future of Blockchain will continue to promote conversations about this exciting new technology.
Although we're (again) unable to meet in-person this year, the online conference features blockchain experts, innovators, and policymakers from Blacksburg, SWVA, the Commonwealth, nation and world. The blockchain initiative’s leaders will host and facilitate panel forums, and fireside chats to discuss the political, economic, and social implications of this disruptive technology.
Participation in the conference is free and open to all. There is no charge for attendance; however, we encourage you to contribute to the Computer Science Annual Fund.
If you are an individual with a disability and desire an accommodation, please email Briana Blanchard, bnblanch@vt.edu, at least 10 business days prior to the event.
